Training Principles Mini Course

You're about to discover the training principles that will propel you on your road to successful dog training.

The Truth About Dogs

These training principles mixed with two other ‘absolutely cannot do without’ ingredients will guarantee your success in training.

That’s all it takes… 3 ingredients.

But before I get into the mini-course on specific training principles, I'd like to explain an important concept that most trainers (even the "gurus") and dog owners don't "get":

Have you ever thought about why is it so important to train your dog?  What's the single biggest benefit of having a dog that does what you need and want?

Most people think the biggest benefit of having a well trained dog is "a dog that responds" -- and that's what a lot of "gurus" will tell you too.  But these people are completely missing the Big Picture.

You see, a dog that responds is a benefit, but it's hardly the biggest benefit of having a well trained dog.

The REAL biggest benefit of having a well trained dog is interaction! You can actually INTERACT with your dog: in your home, in public, with other dogs, with other people.

You can only do this IF your dog is well trained.

You can finally do all those things you dreamt of when you first thought about having a dog.  What is the point of having a dog if you can’t enjoy them?

Did you know you can train your dog with guaranteed success with just minutes a day?

It’s true.  You can laser-target exactly the area that needs work … is it your dog jumping, is it your dog barking, is it your dog being aggressive or you simply want you dog to walk on a lead?

All you have to do is use repetition.

Why? Because of a few simple reasons:

1. Dogs learn and remember when they repeat basic exercises so that the exercises become automatic.  For example, with the sit command, using my techniques I have seen dogs respond within 2 minutes, repeating the specific exercise only 3 times (without food rewards!) You’d be surprised how quickly your dog picks up what you are wanting of them if you are teaching them correctly…

2. Also, dogs develop memory blocks so even though your dog was perfect they may need a refresher as they may unintentionally forget.   You should not confuse a memory block with plain obstinence or disrespect and not doing what they are asked (I reveal all the steps on how to handle this).

Because specific repetition is so powerful... and there are so many insider techniques that will catapult you ahead in training... I've devoted over 17 pages to it in my Dog Obedience Training book explaining how anyone can train your adult dog or puppy with minimum time and cost.

Plus, you also get free reports on ‘How to House Train My Dog’ and ‘Stop Your Dog Fretting’ where its like looking over my shoulder as I show you, in step-by-step detail, exactly how to manage those problem behaviors. Simply go to
www.excellentdogtraining.com immediately to discover these secrets (and much, much more!)

That's why it's so important to use repetition.

Now, perhaps you might be thinking, "But Ross, isn’t there more to training than getting your dog to repeat an exercise?"

Well, yes.

You see, although there are indeed lots of important aspects to training, there are only 3 ingredients that you need to ensure your success.

In the next part of your dog training principles mini-course, I'll tackle the question of “To praise or not to praise your dog” to get immediate success.

Now that you know the importance of repetition in your dog training, whether that be for an adult dog or puppy, I'll reveal the simple thoughts on praise to guarantee your dog training success -- even if you're a beginner.

You see, there is much debate over whether to praise or not to praise.

Praise, whether by voice or by hand is a very grey area. I have had much success in my dog training using both.

The golden rule of praise, regardless of it being given by voice of hand, is sincerity.

Dogs aren’t fooled by insincere or patronizing praise and are as unimpressed as a beautifully groomed woman given a condescending compliment from a patronizing man.

In short, be sincere or keep your mouth shut.

I suggest you rarely use food as a reward.  I do not disapprove of the use of food as an enticement to teach a dog who is being difficult with an exercise, for example a type 2 dog…

Because the type of dog you have is integral and often overlooked (even by the "gurus")... to the type of training you will deliver, I have devoted an entire chapter to it.

You get to look over my shoulder as I define your dog, and then provide the step-by-step words and actions so you understand exactly how I would train your dog.

But I believe the food inducement should be dropped within a few days.

I do, however, object to the practice of recent years where dogs are taught to be gluttons by continual feeding.  In this case, the trainer is basically bribing the dog into performing exercises like a circus animal.

The key is knowing how to deliver your training techniques in the best way for your dog to respond.

(And once you know the secrets, you'll be amazed to discover immediate success).

Getting your training principles right and discovering the best way to use them for your dog forms part of the basic foundation for everything you do for your dog training.

If you know the inside secrets on how to do this, you will propel your way ahead for success in minutes for any training your do with your dog.

There are some basic steps to use these principles which many trainers know about (I go into detail in my book
www.excellentdogtraining.com )

But my experience of over 36 years goes way beyond just these well-known techniques. You see, over the years I've experienced many other powerful techniques that guarantee your training success in a shorter amount of time.

One of my favorites is the morning ritual you do with your dog… This is useful in getting immediate success!  I reveal this in my book!

After knowing about the importance of praise, how much to use, when or if you use it at all. A training principle that should be used to make your dog beg for you to train them is bonding.

Did you know you can train your dog with guaranteed success with just minutes a day?

If ever there was a secret to successful dog training it would have to be the aspect of bonding or developing a rapport with the dog.

The way you interact with your dog will have an immediate benefit to your relationship.  Your dog will be chomping at the bit to please you.

It’s true.

You can laser-target exactly the area that needs work … simply because you have an awesome bond with your dog.

This may sound crazy but it really works… talk to your dog!

Why? Because of a few simple reasons:

1. Finding 2 minutes a day to have a chat with your dog will make your dog one of your closest and dearest friends.

2. Playing a game, laying on the grass, having a cuddle in front of the television, or taking your for drives or good long walks will make them want to please you every moment of every day.

When you then go and ask them to perform a specific task… just imagine the result!

BUT WAIT! Because bonding is so powerful… there is a fine line with bonding.  You need to make sure your dog wants to do as you ask and play with you because it wants to please you, NOT because it thinks you are a playmate.

Don’t worry, I give you all the insider techniques on how to get this right so when you start your bonding you are doing it in the way that will catapult you ahead in training.  Simply go to www.excellentdogtraining.com immediately to discover these secrets (and much, much more!)

In the next part of your dog training principles mini-course, I'll extend the concept of bonding and chatting to your dog to the next level… you will love watching your success handed to you on a platter.

So powerful is eye contact, even the most flippant or aggressive dog responds.

You see, a dog, with the wolf as its fore father, seeks to read a person’s mind by looking directly into their eyes.

Your dog will seek your communication not by looking at your feet or chest… your dog will stare intently at your eyes.

So, in return you must use your eyes to communicate with your dog.

STOP. Is your dog aggressive toward you? Staring at an aggressive dog can be interpreted as a threat by the dog.  Generally this is not the case with a pet, but if your dog is aggressive, there is different ground work to do before you get to this stage.

You will be so greatly rewarded by going through the steps I reveal at www.excellentdogtraining.com . Your aggressive dog will become putty in your hands!

It is FACT that if a trainer and dog have a very close bond, the trainer can put the dog in a stay position, leave it walking several paces away, then turn and face it.

The trainer can then focus on the dog, concentrating intently and looking directly into the dog’s eyes. The trainer can hold the dog’s full attention for several minutes if necessary before breaking contact.

In reading this it may not sound so incredible, but take a minute to look into your dogs eyes right now…

How long can you keep their attention looking into your eyes?

Not so easy is it?

Because the type of dog you have is integral and often overlooked (even by the "gurus")... to the type of training you will deliver, I have devoted 5 entire chapters to the ‘ground work’.

You get to look over my shoulder as together we understand your dog and how they will respond to your training.  I provide the step-by-step words and actions, exactly how I would train your dog – a definite guarantee to your success.

By now, you are bonding with your dog.  Well done!  Now its time to discuss the training principle -- corrections.

Correcting your dog is key to your success in training it well!

DO NOT BE FOOLED…  A correction is not about yelling or hurting your dog. It is not about screaming obscenities or punching it.

The strategies I will reveal are simple, humane and most importantly effective… they get results period.

The golden rule for correcting is that it is better to be too soft than too hard.

You can always come down harder on a dog if it’s getting away with too much, but it can be very hard to build up a dog’s confidence if it has suffered corrections too severe for its temperament.

Corrections cannot be used on their own.  And you must understand your dogs temperament to deliver the right correction. Discover the proven, 'lab-tested' strategies a 56-year-old Mt Morgan man has used to successfully train 7,817 dogs and mentoring over 3,477 dog handlers.

Go to
www.excellentdogtraining.com to discover these secrets right away.

Corrections may vary from a stern word, a check with a lead, to a sharp smack on the rump.

The secret to giving successful corrections is with voice intonation or inflection.  It is an incredibly valuable training aid and is very important in reprimanding an offending dog.

Likewise it is valuable in praising a dog to reward it and make it feel good.

The key to catapulting your success with training your dog is knowing the exact behaviors to display and words to use.  I have devoted over 6 pages in www.excellentdogtraining.com to walking you through this right.

To get you started, the correction words you may like to use are “no”, “naughty”, “bad”, or “behave”.   You choose!

The insider secret that I will reveal to you now though, is it really doesn’t matter what word you choose – it’s the tone of the voice that counts!

I strongly suggest if you're really serious about dog training you check out my Dog Obedience Training book at www.excellentdogtraining.com . I guarantee it will shave years off your learning curve and accelerate your dog training success and fulfillment with your dog.

You can only do this IF your dog is well trained.
